La Salle schools take measures against the A(H1N1) virus (update 1)

By Raffy Malenab

In light of the A(H1N1) pandemic, La Salle schools have initiated measures and campaigns to prevent the further spread of the virus and to ensure the welfare of the academic community especially its students.

Be Flu-less, Not Clueless (DLSU)

In response to the confirmed cases of A(H1N1) inside the campus, De La Salle University (DLSU) in cooperation with Green Cross, the student body and the parents’ foundation organized the Be Flu-less, Not Clueless awareness campaign launched during the reopening of classes last 15 June. As the name suggests, the campaign is geared towards educating the Lasallian community on maintaining proper hygiene inside the university, spotting flu-like symptoms and most importantly what to do to contain the spread of the virus. Information pamphlets and free bottles of Green Cross alcohol were given to students while FAQ guides and button pins were also made visible around the campus.

Also, the office of DLSU President, Br. Armin Luistro FSC released separate letters to the community and to the parents assuring them of the University’s continuing efforts in keeping the school a conducive place for learning.

Visual Information Campaign (USLS)

Following DLSU's move, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) launched their own awareness campaign to prevent the spread of A(H1N1) by putting up A(H1N1) information tarpaulins and posters around campus. A health advisory was distributed to the community through flyers containing information on the signs and symptoms, mode of transmission and prevention techniques against the virus

Task Force Prevention (DLSC)

To respond to the threat of the A(H1N1) virus, De La Salle Canlubang formed a task force aptly named AH1N1 Anti-Infection Action Team. Composed of faculty and staff representatives and members of the school clinic headed by the registrar's office, the task force launched a two-fold prevention campaign through information dissemination and maintenance of physical facilities. According to Engr. Albert Llorador of the Physical Facilities Office (PFO), an orientation was held during the first day of classes to educate the students on the basics of the A(H1N1) pandemic and how to stop the further spread of the virus. Also, anti-bacterial soaps were placed in restrooms and regular spraying of insect repellants and aerosol sanitizers are done every afternoon after classes to prevent the spread of other diseases.
